Daniel H. Kosoy

Dr. Kosoy has nine years of experience in the venture capital industry focusing on the Life Sciences, including biotechnology, bio and specialty pharmaceuticals, medical devices, device-drug combination products and diagnostics. He has been a Partner with Athenian Venture Partners, a national venture capital firm, since 2000, where he has led investments in a range of companies, 3 leading to public offerings and one to an asset acquisition. Dr. Kosoy has a very broad network in the Life Sciences industry, rooted in San Diego and Southern California, and extending to the San Francisco Bay Area, the Midwest, Boston, New York, Durham, the UK and Israel. He serves on the Boards of Directors or Scientific Committees of a number of biotechnology companies, including Verus Pharmaceuticals, Archemix Corporation, and Windy Hill Medical. Dr. Kosoy also has experience as a biomedical technology consultant working with small and large biotech and pharmaceutical companies. He is also the Founder and President of KMD Medical Group, a professional medical corporation. Prior to his career in venture capital, Dr. Kosoy trained as a physician and surgeon, specializing in transplant surgery. He has been in Medicine for over thirteen years and still practices, holding a California medical license and appointments at two major hospitals and a university. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. Dr. Kosoy has an excellent understanding of the technical, clinical and regulatory aspects of biomedical and pharmaceutical product development. He also has a deep technical understanding of molecular biology, and all aspects of clinical medicine and surgery, including physician/patient drivers and behavior, and the hospital environment. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in Philosophy with studies in Molecular Biology from Yale University, and his Medical Doctor degree from McGill University.
