Yossie Hollander

Chairman, Fuel Freedom Foundation

Yossie Hollander is a successful software entrepreneur, philanthropist and co-founder of the Fuel Freedom Foundation, which is dedicated to opening markets to competition from cheaper, cleaner, healthier replacement fuels such as ethanol, methanol and natural gas. He has been involved in global energy and geopolitical issues for more than a decade, leading policy research into America’s oil addiction and supporting analysis of the economic forces driving global oil markets. Hollander, who lives in Irvine, CA, spent more than 30 years building technology companies in the United States and Israel.  He was introduced to computer programming as a kid in Israel in 1969 and went on to pioneer the industry in Israel. He founded New Dimension Software Ltd., serving as chairman and CEO. He led its 1992 NASDAQ IPO before its sale in 1999 to BMC Software. He also founded additional successful software companies. Since 2000, he has focused on philanthropy and the impact of rising oil prices on the U.S. economy, national security, environment and global development. He is founder and chairman of Our Energy Policy Foundation, which is dedicated to creating an open expert dialogue and agreement on U.S. energy policy. He serves on the executive board and management committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he launched a renewable energy initiative. Hollander is a member of the board of directors of the Institute for Policy and Strategy, which convenes the annual Herzliya Security Conference in Israel. Hollander is also a member of the Board of Councilors of University of Southern California’s College of Arts and Letters. Hollander initiated a lifesaving project at Cornell University. This initiative explores the development of biofuels to create a sustainable transportation fuel and fertilizer sources for villages in Africa, where global oil prices and fuel shortages threaten war and mass starvation. He serves on Cornell University’s Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future. As part of his work with the Fuel Freedom Foundation, Yossie is one of the producers of PUMP – a fuel feature documentary about our oil addiction and how we could end it.
