Edwin A. Finn Jr.

Editor, Barron's

Edwin Finn is editor and president of Barron’s, The Dow Jones Business and Financial Weekly. He is also chairman and editor in chief of SmartMoney, The Wall Street Journal Magazine of Personal Business, co-owned by Dow Jones & Company and Hearst Communications, Inc. Besides running SmartMoney magazine, he oversees SmartMoney.com and SmartMoney Custom Solutions, a custom-publishing operation. Mr. Finn first joined Dow Jones in 1980 as a national copyreader for The Wall Street Journal in New York and moved to the foreign desk as an editor in 1981. From 1984 through 1985, he was a banking and finance reporter in the Journal’s Dallas bureau. In 1986, Mr. Finn joined Forbes magazine as a senior editor, covering international business and finance, and in 1989, he became assistant managing editor. From 1990 to 1992, he was editor of American Banker, a daily trade newspaper. He rejoined Dow Jones in March 1993 as managing editor of Barron’s, and in May 1995, he was named editor of the magazine. He assumed additional responsibilities as president of Barron’s in January 1998 and also served as the magazine’s publisher for a year beginning in January 2000. In the late 1970s, Mr. Finn was managing editor of the Southbridge (Mass.) Daily News and assistant managing editor of the weekly Blackstone Valley Tribune. Mr. Finn earned a bachelor’s degree in English and political science from Tufts University and a master’s degree in international banking and finance from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
