My TIGER 21 membership has given me an opportunity to tap a broad network of experts in a variety of fields and glean investment insights in their particular areas of expertise. In addition, the Group serves as a board of advisors, critiquing my ideas and lending their vast experience to my business and life plans. The collective wisdom of successful peers in the unique confidential setting of TIGER 21 meetings has enabled me to learn from the mistakes others have made and use their successes as a model. In addition, I have tremendously enjoyed the camaraderie and the thoughtful, stimulating discussions. TIGER 21 is a first class organization and its Members form a nonpareil network of business oriented entrepreneurs.

The $30,000 a year fee is real to me. So, I try to make sure I get at least that investment back by being part of the group. I attend every meeting and try to learn every time. For me, I want to learn from financially successful guys. I want to know what makes them tick, how they analyze opportunities, what they look for and what they avoid, and what constitutes the foundation of their financial successes.

The essence of TIGER 21 is that it is a great group of people, who because of their varied backgrounds, are able to shed light on my investment outlook with different perspectives. My key learning from TIGER 21 is that there are basic philosophies that need to be applied on a macro basis before one tries to make money on a micro basis. The common bond and trust at TIGER 21 allows Members to deliver honest rather than “nice” information in opining on one’s investment mistakes. Exposure to some of the best minds and track records in the investment community has helped to better educate me and shape the future of my investment outlook.

Through TIGER 21 I learned the value of MLP’s in the oil and gas pipeline business. I owned shares in one MLP but did not previously realize the tax and the other benefits of the MLP. Since then, I have increased my exposure to this area and hence my cash flow.

TIGER 21 helped me to learn the vocabulary and the financial concepts behind the words, and in general, gave me a foundation to see and understand the preservation of my portfolio as the priority to address my family’s future financial needs. With a family, I have to take generational planning into account if our intentions are to leave our kids something from our estate. TIGER 21 got me to consider the hard questions and understand the risks to my portfolio. The cross pollination of the other Members within our group is a dividend I give a great amount of weight to. I learn sometimes as much from them as I do from some of the presenters.

Belonging to TIGER 21 is like taking a graduate course in finance and investing. I have been a Member for almost six years. The most important lessons I’ve learned during this time have been about asset allocation and reducing risk through diversification. I have especially enjoyed the breadth of the speakers we see each month and feel fortunate to be a Member of such a close-knit group with whom I can discuss anything - from money, to health, and even personal issues.

The value for me resides in the fact that I can share information about existing and prospective business deals confidentially and then receive unbiased and informed feedback. TIGER 21 is my informal board of advisors.

TIGER 21 has been a valuable asset for me over the past 4 years. I have learned directly from others who are in the same position as me, and indirectly by watching people struggle with the same issues I contend with. I also was able to dramatically reduce my market exposure in early 2008 because of some conversations with other savvy Members. The friendships formed are also very deep. Ironically, one of the most comforting and insightful things I have learned through my TIGER 21 tenure is that no one really has the answers (despite what our brains are hard-wired to believe).

TIGER 21 has given me access to people and perspectives I would never find on my own, helped me better understand the complexities of managing wealth, and kept me out of financial trouble. I find our confidential discussions about personal issues and money to be the most valuable and rewarding part of my TIGER 21 experience.
