Philip A. Epstein

Managing Partner, Calypso Energy, LLC.

Phillip Epstein is a Managing Member of Calypso. His responsibilities are primarily focused on sourcing joint venture opportunities, acquisitions, due diligence, financial management and contract negotiations. Mr. Epstein has over 13 years of experience as a senior executive and corporate lawyer in the global energy industry. From 1992-1998, Mr. Epstein was associated with a private investment firm in New York City where he structured private debt and equity transactions and played an active role in the founding, operations and 1996 initial public offering of Belco Oil & Gas Corp., valued at approximately $600 million. Since 1999, he has served as managing director of Tractatus LLC, where he organizes principal investments in energy and life science companies. In 2002 Mr. Epstein co-founded and now serves as a Director of Superior Renewable Energy LLC, a leading wind energy developer with projects in California, New Mexico, South Dakota, Texas and Hawaii. He previously practiced corporate finance and M&A law at Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson, New York City, where his principal client was Forstmann Little & Company, a leading U.S. leveraged buyout firm. Since 1992, he has helped raise and successfully deploy over $500 million in capital for both public and private companies in the energy industry, principally in the upstream sector. Mr. Epstein serves on the Board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (NY Chapter). He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in Politics and Economics from Oxford University and a J.D. from Northwestern University Law School.
