Greg Curtis

Greg is a leading figure in the launch and evolution of the open architecture advisory movement. He founded Greycourt & Co., Inc. in 1988 and converted the firm to an open architecture platform in 1998. Today, Greycourt remains one of the leading providers of open architecture advice to wealthy families and select endowments. The firm is active in twenty-five states and seven foreign countries. Prior to founding Greycourt, Greg served for many years as president of a family office for the Mellon family and as President of the Laurel Foundation, a private charitable foundation. Before that he was an attorney with the law firm of Reed Smith. He has also worked on the staffs of John V. Lindsay, then Mayor of New York City, and Richard G. Lugar, then Mayor of Indianapolis. Greg is Vietnam Era veteran, an attorney and a registered investment advisor. Greg is the author of Creative Capital: Managing Private Wealth in a Complex World, published in late 2004. Creative Capital discusses the role played by private investment capital in the US economy, and also serves as a step-by-step guide to the management of substantial private wealth. Greg is also the author of a series of white papers on a variety of investment topics of interest to substantial private investors and endowed institutions. Greg is also the author of numerous published articles on investment issues, including articles published in The Journal of Wealth Management. For many years he wrote an investment column, “Right on the Money,” for the Pittsburgh Business Times. Greg is a past Chair of the Board of Visitors and Governors of St. John's College (Annapolis and Santa Fe); a past Chair and a founding Director of The Investment Fund for Foundations, a non-profit firm that provides investment management services to nonprofit organizations; and past President of the Laurel Foundation. He has been a founder or co-founder of numerous non-profit and civic organizations, including Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania, The Emerging International City and the Contemporary Arts Stabilization Trust. He is a Trustee of The Pittsburgh Foundation and of St. John’s College. Greg is a winner of the Academy of American Poets Prize, and was runner-up for the Eve of St. Agnes Award. Greg holds an AB degree from Dartmouth College, cum laude with high distinction in English literature, a JD degree from Harvard Law School, cum laude, and he is a graduate of The Endowment Institute at Harvard Business School. Greg also holds an honorary BA degree from St. John’s College.
