James Watson

Director, Stem Cell Research Program, Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center

Dr. James Watson is a board certified plastic surgeon, inventor, entrepreneur, and stem  cell industry consultant. He was formerly the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and was part of the UCLA Division of Plastic Surgery where stem cells  were first discovered to exist in fat.  Dr. Watson founded Biostrux, a biotech company that is developing the world’s first living tissue breast implant made out of a person’s own fat derived stem cells.  He holds several patents for this technology and has successfully raised money from NIH grants, military research grants, and private equity.  Dr. Watson co-founded the University Stem Cell Center, the first independent stem cell therapy center in Los Angeles, California.  Dr. Watson currently holds the  position of Director of Stem Cell Research at Cha Hollywood Presbyterian Medical  Center in Los Angeles where he is currently doing translational research in the use of adult fat-derived stem cells for breast reconstruction as well as research into adult sources of embryonic-like stem cells that would eliminate the need for embryonic stem cells.  He is a highly sought after speaker on the subject of fat-derived stem cells and the future of the stem cell industry.  He has given lectures  at many universities, plastic surgery societies, and at anti-aging societies in the US and  Asia.  He has also been an invited lecturer for the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS).  He has also consulted for manyUS and international companies in the field of stem cells.   Dr. Watson does not have any conflicts of interest to disclose other than his ownership of Biostrux Corporation.
