Russell Deakin

Russell Deakin is a Managing Director of Rio Bravo Investimentos, an independent asset management firm. With a total AUM of USD 2.5 billion, the firm specializes in Brazilian assets and long-term investment strategies. The firm has approximately 90 professionals based in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Recife and Miami.A private equity professional since 2001, Mr. Deakin recently joined Rio Bravo to set up its America’s office in Miami. Mr. Deakin is spearheading international fund raising activities for Rio Bravo, including the Rio Bravo Energy fund, a Brazilian private equity fund that invests in the Brazilian power sector, mainly in greenfield renewable projects., as well as the Fundamental public equity fund, which has a seven year track record which places it amongst the best performance Brazilian long only equity funds.Prior to entering the private equity arena, Mr. Deakin gained substantial international experience in the other sectors of alternative assets, such as real estate, where he was a CFO and partner for 11 years for a Brazilian real estate developer, and in capital markets with Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch in London.A dual British and American citizen, Mr. Deakin is an economist from Tufts and Oxford University with a MBA in International Marketing and Finances from the Anderson Graduate School, UCLA.Mr. Deakin Is a regular speaker at Private equity, family office and Latin America finance conferences and seminars in Brazil, such conference include those of Super Return, Emerging Market Private Equity association, Latin America Venture Association,  Dow Jones, The Economist, and others.
